Founded in 1996, ABAM Cigars began as a small family venture at the end of the late-20th-century cigar boom. The company takes its name from the initials of its founders, all Cuban by birth and deeply rooted in tobacco: Aidee, Berto, Amalia, and Matias.
Aidee and Matias brought with them lifelong connections to the tobacco world, shaped by family farming traditions in Pinar del Rio and early hands-on exposure to cigar making. Their shared background was refined under the guidance of Adalberto Ruizcalderon, known as Berto, a highly respected industry veteran who began working in tobacco at a young age and provided the group with foundational technical training.
After an initial period in a limited workspace, ABAM established its permanent factory in the Villa Mella Industrial Free Zone, allowing for organized growth and long-term stability. Over time, additional family members joined the operation, strengthening its structure across planning, technology, and design.
Today, ABAM Cigars operates as a family-owned manufacturer that balances tradition with modern responsibility. Its facilities are supported by a large-scale solar energy system, and the company maintains a strong commitment to education, inclusion, and community support, including free tobacco training and local outreach programs.
